First of all, I have to say that I use two different concepts for maintenance.
"Simple maintenance" top the head 5-7,5cm and separate the original way if grow together.
"Full remake" The full length of the lock and separate.
Q: How often is maintenance needed?
A: Maintenance is typically due every three months. However, adjustments after six months or even a year have occurred; during these times, the locks often grow together.
-
Q: How can regrowth be handled?
A: Mainly through crocheting. I always recommend twisting the locks twice a week—this helps prevent them from growing together, and it also makes my work easier.
-
Q: Can I do it myself?
A: Of course, I’m happy to show you how, but it’s labor-intensive and requires a lot of experience. At first, your hands might feel like they’re exploding within the first ten minutes, but over time, you’ll get used to it.
-
Q: How long does it take if you do it?
A: If we’re dealing with 60 locks again and its "Simple Maintenance" it takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours. It depends on whether I need to hurry or we have time to chat. The duration can vary from person to person.
-
Q: I see a lot of dreadlock shampoos and fixatives around. Can you recommend something?
A: Personally, I’ve never used anything other than my favorite shampoo for washing, so I can’t recommend such products—I don’t have experience with them, just with natural hair.
-
Q: How should we prepare before adjustments?
A: Three to four days before the session, wash your hair thoroughly—more thoroughly than ever before—and rinse it extra well. Don’t worry if the hair falls apart at the crown; it will be fixed soon anyway. I usually emphasize this when scheduling appointments.
